Overview of university

The history of Aston University traces back to 1875 when a School of Metallurgy was started. Then, after many transitions and additions to the university, finally, in 1966, Aston University received its royal charter from Queen Elizabeth II. Aston University is a public research university and is one of the leading career-focused universities in the UK. It is dedicated to providing a real-world experience to all students.


Located in the centre of Birmingham, Aston Uni welcomes career-minded students. Aston’s graduates are amongst the highest-paid five years after graduation (Leo, 2020). The rankings of Aston University over recent years indicate it to be a leading and inclusive university at the local, national, and global levels. Aston Uni campus is a single-site campus located in the heart of Birmingham city. The university provides its students with some of the world's best learning and research environments. This includes modern lecture theatres and clinics for students to practice in – such as the Aston Brain Centre and Aston Eye Clinic, to a range of specialist laboratories, including the £3.9 million virtual reality facility. Apart from this, Aston University has a library that remains open 24/7 during term time. 


Aston University provides various courses at different levels such as foundation programme, undergraduate degrees, degree apprenticeships, postgraduate courses, professional courses, research degrees, and online courses. Some of the departments of the university are Aston Business School, Aston Law School, Aston Medical School, Health and Life Sciences, School of Engineering & Applied Science, College of Business and Social Sciences, and School of Social Sciences and Humanities. There is a range of international scholarships available at Aston University namely the Vice Chancellor’s International Scholarship and Global Ambassador Scholarship.


The undergraduate students at Aston Uni are provided a room in Aston Student Village if they meet all the eligibility requirements. Additionally, students can also take off-campus accommodation. Aston University also guarantees campus accommodation to the first fifty postgraduate applicants for their first-year study if they meet all the set conditions.
