Toronto Metropolitan University formally Ryerson University is named after Ontario’s first superintendent of education and leading public school advocate, Egerton Ryerson. Toronto Metropolitan University (TMU) is a public university, established in 1948 to fulfil the need for skilled tradespeople following the Second World War. TMU is a postsecondary institute designed to combine technical education with academic theory. Toronto Metropolitan University announced its name change from Ryerson University in late April 2022. The name change is the first step towards a future beyond the legacy of its previous namesake, Egerton Ryerson.

According to the Times Higher Education World University Ranking 2022, Toronto Metropolitan University ranking is in the range of 801-1000. TMU initiated an updation plan, i.e., the Campus Master Plan, to upgrade the infrastructure of the TMU campus. The Campus Master Plan describes a collaboratively developed vision of the campus as a place that advances sustainable development, embraces reconciliation, supports safety and security, and embeds accessibility. Toronto Metropolitan University is Canada’s leader in innovative and career-focused education. It offers 62 undergraduate courses and 55 PhD & postgraduate programs. Fee for international undergraduate students ranges from $29,945 to $38,457 for the academic year 2022/23. Fee for international postgraduate students ranges from $25,000 to $27,500 for the academic year 2022/23.

Toronto Metropolitan University has three residences, i.e., Daphne Cockwell Complex (DCC), International Living/Learning Center (ILC), and Pitman Hall (PIT). The cost of living depends upon the type of accommodation you choose to live in at the Toronto Metropolitan University. There are many choices for accommodations, i.e., 2 bedroom apartment, 4 bedroom apartment, double room, single room, and paired style. The cost of accommodation is in the range of $2,000 - $3,500 per year for the academic year 2022/23. The meal plan is mandatory in these residences and the cost of a 7-day meal plan is approximately $1,500 for the academic year 2022/23. Toronto Metropolitan University is home to 39,500 students including 7% international students from around the world, making it one of the largest comprehensive universities in Canada.
